8th Final Post! Last But Not Least!

This is my last blog post. It feels good to be done with this part of the project. I have been waiting to get this over with for a while now, but now that I look at the other things I have to do, this was the easiest. The compare/contrast part is a little bit bigger than I had planned and now I have to go trough the book again and write out other compare/contrast things down for the chart. It is going to be a bit of a struggle.

I found that in the book Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver connects with my project in a few ways. First, was how at the beginning of the book they moved away from a city of what the whole family was so used to. As in making a big change and going into a new element or enviornment. I feel like I did that with starting my job. I was never used to working and with being spoiled and being pushed to get a job was a challenge. It was me going in to a whole new enviorment, something I was never used to. I am used to getting things given to me on a silver platter without having to lift a finger and by me getting a job was different. The people in the book and I were both making drastic new chnages, for the better.

Another way we connected was the discipline to only eating things that they had grown and only buying itmes form a store that onyl sold locally grown foods. They stuck to that, which is hard from making the change from going to the store and buying salty, fatty chips and candy to only eating what you could grow. That shows disipline and strength, which i believed is what i had by getting the job and working a lot. I had to have self disipline ti go to work and not skip out just becuase my friends called me and wanted to hang out. I had to have disipline not to call in and stay at home to sleep in. I had to have it in order to keep my job and be as good as an employee that I am.

This is my last blog. I am really glad to be signing off for good and get started on my other essays. See you all in school!

7th Post! 1 More To Go!

So here it is; my seventh post. I am very glad to be almost done with this project, but i still have some reading to do. Actually, I have a lot of reading to do. I am not that big on reading but I am ready to get it out of the way.

Well a few weeks ago, I had explained what had happened between me and a manager with my drawer coming up short and me not actually working that day. So, just this past week i worked with her again. Surprisingly, she was being nice to me. Funny, huh? Well, I thought so. You would expect her to be even more mean to me than she was before, but she was not. It had seemed a little fishy to me. but i did not think much into it. Everyone at my work, or at least a few of us think she is scamming off the job. Like takinh money from the drawers or even the workers, at that.

I am actually in the process of looking for a new job. I like where I am working now, but that has kind of died away. We keep hiring new people, which is taking hours away from me. This sucks. When i do work its only like for two or three hours. Last week i only had one day! They did call me in though, but still that was only for a few hours. This week i work Wednesday from three to six, Thursday, and Friday. I am not sure what the hours are because my schedule is up in my room. I am not getting enough hours, and if things do not change than i am going to have to find another job sooner than i thought.

We will see how things go next week!

S.Madden's 6th Post!

Well here it is; my sixth blog. Only two moe to go and honestly i am really glad. Even though this project was suppsed to be fun and different, it was acutally a pain. It has been hard for me to come up with something different to say every week. I never really know what to say. It is almost over so I just got to stick to it!
Last Sunday, one of my managers; which is also the person i was talking about last week that does not really get along with me; came up to me and said that the sunday before my drawer had come up short ten dollars, but she did not know if it was before i got the drawer or after i had used it because she never counted it and she never had me count it before or after like we are supposed to. So then she goes onto say that she had put the ten dollars in the drawer of her own money, and that i should give her five on it becuase it was half her fault and half mine. She also said that she was not goin to write me up about it because she does not know when it had happended and she would also be written up too, then she says " you have been written up for it before, right"? WRONG! I had told her i had never been written up for anything and i definitely do not have to steal money. So i just gave her the five dollars not realizing that that was the wrong thing to do, but it being my first and it was on the spot i just did not know what to do. So after my shift i told my mom about it , and she wanted me to tell my main manager. So I did. He went to see if i even worked that Sunday, and i didn't! So he was really upset about it, saying it was her fault not mine and she should not have done that. As of now i do not know what is going on with that, but i would like my five dollars back.
I will update it next week.

Four Down, Four More o Go!

Well this is my fourth blog. Four down, four more to go. I wish this project had a little more structure, but I have to work with what I got. My summer project is on my summer job, as you all may know. I enjoy it a lot. I feel very comfortable at my job and I believe it is all thanks to the people I work with. Everyone there is really nice. Kind of the opposite that I am used to. I seem to ge getting along great with my co-workers and getting to know them all. It is a great enviornment to be in,
I only worked four two days this week, and I have not gotten my new schedule yet. This week I worked Wednesday from nine to one-thirty and Thursday from twelve to four-thirty. A total of nine hours for this week. Better than nothning is how I keep looking at it.
Yesterday during my shift, we had a partners fro success meeting. It is where all the workers or tem members come together and we talk about how we did for the past few months and brain storm on ideas to attract new customers and keep the ones we have. It was my first meeting since I had started working there and it was pretty intresting. We talked about the art of selling, like on how we need sell more fires and drinks and we could bring in a lot more money with that alone. We also talked about were we stood, like our expenses and sales. Basically, how we are doing as a restaurant, and the things we could improve on. At the end, we split up into groups and came up with ideas for our restaurant. My group came up with promoting to have birthday parties, or having a picnic area. Overall, the meeting was great.
I will update you next week.
